Cardiff Group make use of a number of these funded megaphones and other vehicle based PA Systems which are self-funded.
The Megaphones are primarily used for Crowd Control and Emergency Evacuations but also can be used for Public Address should the need arise utilising a moving vehicle to announce available options.
Local communities can be alerted to potential local issues such as “telecoms failure”, especially now the BT networks are speedily moving to VOIP networks.
A loss of power coinciding with lack of mobile signals or networks down in a local area, could render the 999 networks uncontactable.
Notifying the public of alternative means of access to such services via local community centres or emergency co-ordinating centres could be utilised this way.
Direct use of RAYNET operators patrolling local areas with this equipment can draw attention to our ability to relay emergency needs via our networks to emergency control centres. This service could prove vital to being able to raise an alarm and activate a response in times of need.
Use of this equipment is a similar volunteer service to which the coastguard provided during Covid.
