Icom IC-2820 D-Star go box.

An Icom IC-2820 go box can be deployed as a TTU (see our item on TTU’s elsewhere on this site) or two way radio for use in temporary locations such as rest centres / Control rooms or out in the field, it is analogue and digital (via D-Star digital) and this DIY home built one (pictured) is combined with a Raspberry Pi micro Computer which can deliver additional data options including e-mail over radio frequencies on browser based PC / Phone or tablet from it’s own Wifi hotspot.

Keyboard to keyboard comms and one to one data messaging can be achieved with a PC attached see our VARAC info listed in our other capabilities.

Basic tracking can also be provided from similar tracking capable devices via Automatic Position Reporting Systems (aprs) networks and direct one to one transmission. Simple text-based messaging can be exchanged between these devices.

Other Go-Boxes are constructed by RAYNET members consisting of radios from other manufacturers, our choice of the ICOM version is due to it’s compatibility with our digital services.
